Purmo heating solutions provide sustainable heat in new children and youth centre
Warm home for children and young people
Lebenshilfe Goslar is a social non-profit organisation that offers support services for people with disabilities at over 16 locations. This year they are opening a new children and youth centre in Harlingerode, where 24 children between the ages of 7 and 18 can find a (temporary) home. The building consists of 3 parts, each of which houses a living group, connected by an internal access zone. On top of a single room for each resident, there are functional rooms such as therapy and work rooms as well as spacious rooms for leisure and exercise.
To ensure future-proof indoor climate comfort and comply with the German Buildings Energy Act (GEG), the building has been equipped with a heat pump system that uses renewable energy to generate heat. To transport the heat to the various rooms, a total of 1550 m2 of our Noppjet underfloor heating system has been installed, together with 11 electric Delta E column radiators.
Low profile underfloor heating system
Although initially the Rolljet underfloor heating system was considered for this project, the Noppjet 11 system was ultimately more interesting here because of the limited available height and additional specifications requesting increased sound proofing. This stud panel system has a total thickness of only 30 mm, including 11 mm of insulation. The stud panel consists of a polystyrene rigid foam EPS200 and is loadable up to 60 kPa (6t/m2).
The heating system is operated by an air-to-water heat pump with an inlet temperature of 35°C and a return temperature of 27°C. Our PexPenta 14x2 PE-Xc heating pipe is also integrated. This is a cross-linked heating pipe made of high-density polyethylene. Thanks to the cross-linking, the PexPenta PE-Xc pipe achieves a much higher thermal and mechanical resistance than non-cross-linked heating pipes. An additional benefit for the building contractor and the owner is the extended 30-year Purmo warranty on this pipe.
The manifold used in this underfloor heating system is our stainless steel Premium Line manifold.

Electric column radiators
To complement the underfloor heating system and ensure sufficient heat output in the bathrooms, a white Delta E column radiator was added to these rooms. “As this building is designed for children and young people with disabilities, we had to meet particular specifications for the radiator brackets. These had to correspond to at least class 3 in accordance with VDI 6036. So instead of a classic bathroom radiator, we opted for the vertical Delta E electric designer radiator which meets all the requirements of this project”, explains Birgit Meier, HVAC planner at the Klockgether engineering office that handled this project. The heating contractor responsible for the installation was HLF in Goslar, with its site manager, Dipl.-Ing Axel Strudthoff.
