Hygiene radiators: combining hygiene and indoor climate comfort
Hygiene radiators with a special hygienic design
Germs should not stand a chance in sensitive areas such as hospitals, medical practices and care facilities. Neither on the radiators present in the room(s), nor in the air. Therefore radiators are required with a custom hygienic design. With our Hygiene radiators we offer a suitable solution for hygienically sensitive areas as these radiators have no convection fins, and usually have no top cover and side panels. This makes them extremely easy to clean and minimises room air movement so that the spread of germs in inhibited as much as possible. This also applies to our Delta column radiators as they offer sufficient space for cleaning thanks to their 50 mm link spacing.
Specificities of Hygiene radiators
Radiators used in facilities with high hygienic requirements must meet a number of specific requirements. These include:
- easy assembly and disassembly of trim parts, if any. This means that the side panels and covers should be easily removable in case these are present on the radiator. Our Hygiene radiators are basically designed without top cover and side panels for instant access. In case of radiator types that do have these trim parts, they are easily removable before installation by lifting off the galvanised metal clips at the bottom. Although the Delta column radiators don’t have trim parts, the laser welding technique used to produce this type of radiator eliminates all weld joints so that the radiators have a guaranteed flat surface.
- a good accessibility to the radiator for cleaning and disinfection measures. The absence of convection plates in our Hygiene panel radiators ensures easy accessibility, which is an important prerequisite for effective cleaning. There is also sufficient space between the panels so that the internal surfaces are easily accessible for visual inspection and manual cleaning. Our Delta column radiators are inherently hygienic, as they don’t have any trim parts (top cover or side panels) and the 50 mm spacing between the columns allows for easy cleaning.
- resistance to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Radiators used in healthcare facilities should be damp cleanable and disinfectable. This means that their coating needs to be particularly resistant to the use of commercially available and possibly aggressive cleaning agents and disinfectants. Our Hygiene radiators have an epoxy resin powder coating according to DIN 55900. This gives them a surface coating that is virtually pore-free and creates a smooth surface. Consequently there is little opportunity for solid particles to adhere and any contaminants that do occur are easy to remove. Our coating is particularly resistant to the use of concentrations of cleaning agents and disinfectants used in healthcare facilities, which help to eradicate any bacteria that are present.
Our hygienic radiators have been tested and positively assessed by various independent institutes.
Hygiene radiators cause minimal air movement
The absence of convection plates in the hygienic design doesn’t only allow for a good accessibility to the radiator. It also means that this type of radiator operates mainly on the principle of radiant heat. Compared with radiators equipped with convector fins, Hygiene radiators therefore generate very little convection of the room air. This minimises the turbulent mixing of the room air, so that germs and dust particles are dispersed through the air as little as possible. An important benefit for many people, ranging from allergy sufferers to those who are easily susceptible to diseases.

Hygiene radiators for optimal indoor climate comfort
An added benefit of the radiant heating that Hygiene radiators provide is the comfortable warmth that is generated. Radiant heating provides a gentle and consistent warmth that doesn’t dry out the air. Instead of heating the air, as convection heat does, radiant heating heats the objects, people and surfaces in a room. It’s a more direct heat, so the warmth is felt quicker and experienced as more comfortable. Especially in environments such as hospitals or care facilities, where staff work long shifts and patients are going through a healing process indoor climate comfort is of great importance.
