Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approves Purmo Group's emission-reduction targets

At Purmo we firmly believe in transparent communication with our stakeholders and customers. We are therefore very pleased to announce that our targets for reducing greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. This is a major step in our journey to a more sustainable future and our dedication to making it more transparent, tangible and measurable.

Important milestone on our sustainability journey

Anyone familiar with Purmo knows that sustainability has become part of our company DNA with the aim of making a significant difference. Together with our stakeholders we want to make things happen, but this can only succeed if there is full clarity about our ambitions. This way our customers know exactly where we stand when they engage with us.

Last year we already announced our commitment to submit near-term, long-term and net-zero by 2050 targets to the SBTi for approval. After a year of intensive preparation, study and reporting our targets are now approved and we have a clearly defined path to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. This will guide us to reach the level of corporate responsibility that our customers rightly expect from us as a leader in sustainable indoor climate comfort solutions.

Purmo Group’s approved science-based targets

Purmo Group’s approved targets cover scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in both the near term (2033) and long term (2050). Purmo Group has also committed to reaching net zero GHG emissions by 2050. The approved targets are:

- Near-Term Targets: Purmo Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 54.6% by 2033 from a 2022 base year*. The Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 32.5% within the same timeframe.

- Long-Term Targets: Purmo Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2022 base year*. The Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% within the same timeframe.

* The target boundary includes biogenic, land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

Sam Hodlin, Head of Sustainability, Safety and Wellbeing, is very pleased: “This is great news for us and the planet. It gives a clear and transparent pathway to a lower carbon future for us and for our customers. I’m really proud that the targets have been approved by the SBTi. They demonstrate our commitment to aligning with a net-zero future, limiting the harmful effects of global warming, and building a more sustainable world.”

John Peter Leesi, CEO of Purmo Group adds: "We cannot stop at just making solutions that perform better for the planet. We must also be sure that the ways they’re made are better for the planet. We now have science-based targets with which we can lead our value chains, and for which we can stand up and be counted."
